The surgery was successful
My surgery – to remove the blockage on my left nasal septum area, and a slight deviation of the nasal septum – is over and it was sucessful. At least medically. I am yet to experience the immense benefits, like being able to breathe through both my nostrils
But that will happen only after 2 more days, when the whole nose has been cleaned.
The surgery was performed by Dr Sadasivam, an E N T who consults at Sanjay ENT Clinic, Mandavelli. A nice man, and a trustworthy doctor, though a man of a few words.
I believe in properly documenting incidents, for future reference and clarity. So, I took down some notes while I was in hospital, things like how I felt at that point in time, what was happening around me etc. I also managed to convince my brother to get some photos. I post two of them here. Disclaimer: These pics may be slightly disturbing, depending on the state of mind of the viewer/reader. I am not responsible for the consequences in any way.

This was immediately after the surgery was performed and I came back to the room.

This was after the plastering was removed. Just for some interesting fact now, that piece of gauze stuffed up my left nostril, is covered with blood and was easily over 10 inches long.
The pain has been subsiding at a steady rate over the last 2 days. I should be fine by Tuesday or so. Anybody wanting more information on Sleep Apnea and how it can mess up various facets of your life, drop in a line and I'd be willing to share my experiences.
Morning Run along the coast

I had to do it somtime. Have been feeling like a sloth lately (Is that usage right, "like a sloth"?) Anyway, you get the idea. So, i decided to take a morning jog along the beautiful Marina beach. It was wonderful. Felt great after the run/walk. Got a couple of collegues to go along. Ended it with breakfast at Saravana Bhavan. Pongal, vadai, filter coffee. Bliss.
That wonderful first date between this couple…
This is a story of a couple who had their first date together. This story has got everything, from the sublime to the ridiculous. They even had both their pants down by the end of their date. No, not quite….Read on.
We have all had bad dates.. but this takes the cake. This just tells you how tough it is to be single nowadays. This was on the "Tonight Show"with Jay Leno. Jay went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The winner described her worst firstdate experience. There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!
She said it was midwinter… snowing and quite cold… and the guy had taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was aday trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and truly had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful untilthey were headed home late that afternoon. They were driving back downthe mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte.
They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which shedid for a while. Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point where she told him that he had better stop andlet her pee beside the road, or it would be the front seat of his car. They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked herpants down and started.
In the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peeking. All she could think about was the relief shefelt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation. Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation. As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to pump handles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage herflesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem due to the extreme cold.
Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humor of the moment, she answered her date's concerns about "what is taking so long" with a replythat indeed, she was "freezing her butt off and in need of some assistance!"
He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst outlaughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma. Obviously, as hystericalas the situa tion was, they also were faced with a real problem. Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from thegrip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the
predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free. So, as she looked the other way, herfirst-time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off thefender.
As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands down… or perhaps that should be "pants down." ..And you thought your first date was embarrassing.
Jay Leno's comment ..
"This gives a whole new meaning to being pissed off."
Annoyance-1
Just one of them for now…..can someone tell me the keyboard shortcut to go to the search box in iTunes? How difficult can this be, but I just cant seem to find it. May be others dont feel the necessity for one, but I do, really do.
And now introducing….Our First Podcast
We made our first podcast today.
A collegue and I decided that we will be starting a series of podcasts soon, discussing relevant news from Microsoft, Apple, Google, and other technologies from other companies.
We found the whole podcasting thing fun and pretty easy. Equipment used: Powerbook and Audacity.
Download and listen to the sample podcast: Hands on podcasting – Screenswift review (originally posted by lockergnome)

The real Browser war has begun
The new version of Opera, Opera 9(beta) has been released and I had my first go at it this morning. I say it with a tinge of disappointment that its VERY IMPRESSIVE. Disappointed because, my dear firefox has to now take a backseat. Firefox was close to my heart, close to my routine activities, aiding me ever so smoothly. I can never hate Firefox, in case it wasnt already clear that I love(d) it.
Now, to the real thing….Opera 9 is bloody good. So many good features, the widgets, the search keywords(this enables you to set a keyword for any site and search within the site, all this from the address bar itself), the overall slick interface and much more.
I could delve into each of these features in detail and discuss their merits and demerits,
but I will reserve that for another time. For now, here is a screenshot of Opera 9. Firefox Vs Opera Vs IE 7!!!
When I just cannot sleep
I dont know why, or what it is, I just cannot fall asleep tonight. I think my Blood pressure levels are down at the moment too. So helped myself with a mouthful of tried-to-get-something-sweet, but ended up taking sugar. Wonder what the real problem is.
More from the pondicherry trip and moving on
The pondicherry trip was fun, short and adventurous. I wonder if I'd ever go on a relaxing holiday. It was meant to happen by the end of last year itself, but never did. I have uploaded some pictures from the trip here and here.
Since then, I have learnt that I suffer from a sleep disorder called………SNORING! I will be getting it set right soon, yea, I'll be removing those damned speakers and woofers from inside me.
