Weekend Thoughts
As the weekend nears, its time to look at other things happening around.
Firstly, deeply saddened by the performance of West Indies in fourth and final test in the ongoing N Power test series against England. They were bowled out for 152 or so in their first innings, in just 37 overs. What the hell, the second morning of the final test match of the series, having to save a complete 4-0 series whitewash, needing 270 to avoid the follow on, they get all out for 152! Yes, my favourite Brian Lara did manage some runs, but his 79 in the first innings was as beautiful as angry(In the words of Jonathan Angew). He did look a little scratchy in the beginning, but as wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Lara got more fluent. There were cover drives that went whistling on the off side, imperious pulls on the leg side, and then the top edge that got him out at fine leg. One could only get angry and ask “what did he do all this for?”No one else crossed 16. There has never been a player who has achieved so much being a part of such an under-achieving side. You see, making runs is pragmatism for Lara. Hopefully they can make some more runs the second time around.
Going for a movie with Venus tonight. Looking forward to that one. Havent been able to spend too much quality time lately, the weekends is something we both look forward to. She works very late, responsible job you see! Think she’s beginning to get a little more settled at work.
The movie and then may be dinner, tonight should give us both some time, like those good old times. (when we were doin nothing, happily eatinf off our parents money!)
Had a concert at Krishna gana sabha last weekend(15th August). Went off ok. Nothing too great, as always got the feeling that it could have been better. Will try and upload some pictures of the same, sometime next week. The coimbatore concert(scheduled for Sept 7th) has been postponed to the month of February. That was something i was looking forward to!Now will have to wait…
The YACM anniversary starts on Friday. Hopefully it goes off well. I am looking forward to the Harikatha performance on Saturday morning. Those in Madras, look up the papers from Friday, for more details.
BB said he would be coming this weekend, but when i called him yesterday, he said he had to stay back cos it’s his girlfriend’s birthday today. Says he’ll be coming down next weekend. Lets see.
Watch out for the Google Adwords on this page.
Excuse me, lift please!!
Motorists on two-wheelers would have often seen people standing on the side of the road, asking for a ride, may be till the end of the road or something. As a school boy, i used to say to myself that i should be self-sufficient and not depend on others. So, even though my friends would get a ride from school to the bus-stop at the end of the road, I always deterred from doing this. Though i have given a ride to a few so far, none of them compare to the one incident that happened recently. I dont know if its only me, or all guys with bikes, ive always wondered how exciting it would be if a hot looking girl was standing on the road, waiting for a lift!! never happened though….
Last week, as i was heading home from office, someone asked me for a lift. There was something special, rather different about this. It was not some random office goer, or a school boy, tired with his heavy workload hanging from his back, nor was it the exciting ‘hot’ girl. It was a lady though, must have been in her mid-seventies, i think. She was trodding along the side of the small road, her back was hunched. She was really finding it difficult to walk. But i really admire the ladys presence of mind, courage, unihibited nature, call it whatever u want, of asking me for a lift. I doubt that any of the old people we know would do something like this. I obliged, took her on my bike till the end of the road, she asked me to stop outside an apartment, got down, thanked me and blessed me and hurried off.
Felt good at the end of the day, that i had been of some help to someone who needed it.
